Blake Lively Stepped Out in New York City Summer Heat in Two (!) Velvet Blazers

And no shirt.

According to Google, the end of summer is still another month or so away, but Blake Lively is already thinking in terms of fall fashion. As Elle spotted on Friday, the actress stepped out (in 87-degree weather, no less) wearing a blue velvet pantsuit—but she didn’t stop there. Rather than pop on a shirt underneath, she layered another velvet blazer (this one in a deep red) over her first velvet blazer. She paired the look with a dark blue leather bag, hoop earrings out of some shell or bone-like material, and what appear to be nude Louboutins covered in spikes. It’s an outfit that would look perfectly at home on Serena van der Woodsen, or maybe Cate Blanchett’s character in Ocean’s 8.

What would Lively’s stylist say to her client about this look, you might ask. Well, that’s not something Lively has to deal with. In May, she revealed in an interview with WWD that she doesn’t use a stylist at all.

“Probably because I have control issues and a big ego—that’s probably the honest answer,” Lively said jokingly, before adding, “I love design and I love fashion, and it’s a way to be creative. In my job I get to be creative, but it’s over a period of time and so many other people are involved, whereas this is a beginning, middle, and end, and I get to be creative and there’s an end date in the near future.”

“The hard part is going through all the fashion shows and screenshotting all the looks you like and calling them in,” she added. “I have an assistant who helps in calling in the looks. But a lot of it is I have relationships with the designers.”

That’s great and all, but how she deals with the profuse sweating that comes with wearing velvet in August is still unclear. Although it may not matter so much when you are stepping from an air-conditioned apartment building straight into an air-conditioned SUV to whisk you away to, say, an air-conditioned restaurant for a leisurely weekday brunch.
