Beyoncé Takes a Break from the ‘Formation’ Tour, Still Can’t Resist Gucci
Tomorrow — Friday — Beyoncé’s Formation world tour comes to an end in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The singer, whose Lemonade visual album and supporting tour boasted designs by Givenchy, Roberto Cavalli, Balmain, DSquared2, and Gucci, passed on fashion week month festivities — but, like Cate Blanchett, that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been minding the runway. Stopping back in New York between dates in Nashville, Tennessee and the closing night of her tour in New Jersey, Queen Bey went on a little jaunt around the city in a sugary pink Gucci ensemble complete with a Gucci logo-patterned snapback and clutch, a sharp contrasted from the embellished bodysuits that constitute her stage wear.
Who: Beyoncé.
When: Wednesday, October 5.
Where: Out in New York, New York.
What: A candy-striped metallic pleated skirt, pink sweater with a butterfly appliqué, clutch, and baseball cap, all by Gucci, with red Saint Laurent sandals and Delfina Delettrez rings.
Why: Queen Bey has a few custom Gucci pieces on her Formation tour lineup, but Alessandro Michele is also something of her go-to for streetwear, as well. She and Blue Ivy regularly step out in coordinating ensembles, and here, Beyoncé wins us over even without her mini-me, precisely because her look is so sweet and youthful. Blue Ivy might not be there, but we can equally imagine her in a hot pink, butterfly-embroidered sweater. But combined with a baseball cap and clutch in the classic Gucci monogram logo, it demonstrates Michele’s knack for innocent designs with a more adult undercurrent. Aside from all the Gucci, there’s also the matter of the pumps: a pair of blood-red velvet sandals, power-clashing with the pink top and skirt (and, later, pink embellished leather jacket). There’s a lot of texture and color going on, and only Beyoncé could pull it all off for a simple afternoon outing.
