1. A Single Man (Amazon Video)

In his directorial debut, fashion designer Tom Ford transformed a novel of the same name by Christopher Isherwood into a breathtaking film starring Colin Firth as a college professor contemplating suicide after his longtime partner dies in a car accident, with Julianne Moore, Nicholas Hoult, and Jon Kortajarena in supporting roles.

2. The Talented Mr. Ripley (Hulu)

Matt Damon plays the titular character, a nobody who maliciously inserts himself into the lives of two carefree Americans (played by Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow).

3. The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant (Amazon Video)

The Rainer Werner Fassbinder-directed film, which takes place almost entirely within designer von Kant’s bedroom, features an all-female cast and stunning costumes.

4. I Am Love (Amazon Video)

The story of a bourgeoisie family battered by time and romantic drama, starring the one and only queen alien Tilda Swinton and directed by Luca Guadagnino.

5. Valley of the Dolls (Amazon Video)

Based on the novel by Jacqueline Susann, this cult classic follows the trials and tribulations of beautiful young Manhattan professionals in the ’60s.

6. Contempt (Amazon Video)

Jean-Luc Godard’s sendup/love letter to Hollywood, starring Brigitte Bardot. Run don’t walk.

7. Mad Max: Fury Road (Amazon Video)

It’s Charlize Theron and her robotic arm that really seal this movie’s place on the list, but the scrappy, billowing costumes worn by the fleeing wives (played by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough, Megan Gale and Abbey Lee Kershaw) are also très chic.

8. Sunset Boulevard (Amazon Video)

So many Prada turbans.

9. The Royal Tenenbaums (Amazon video)

As evidenced by the number of people you’ve seen wearing Halloween costumes inspired by this movie, Wes Anderson really knows how to dress his characters.

10. Barry Lyndon (Amazon video)

Stanley Kubrick’s lost masterpiece tracks the adventures of an 18th-century Irish explorer. The period-specific dress is breathtaking.
