‘Make America New York’ Is the New Motto of the Fashion Elite
Public School creative directors Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow have never shied away from taking a political stand (read Osborne’s open letter to the fashion industry about the importance of Black Lives Matter here). For fall 2017, however, they have embraced an anti-Trump rhetoric more explicitly. The soundtrack was an unsettling remix of the patriotic tune “This Land Is Your Land,” and the clothes quite literally made a statement: red baseball caps and crop tops twisted the message “Make America Great Again” into “Make America New York,” and several pieces declared, “We need leaders.” See these pieces and more from the Public School Fall 2017 collection up close, here.
