Narciso Rodriguez Knows His Way Around a Slip Dress

Narciso Rodriguez has long been a master of silky slip dresses and expertly tailored silhouettes, but he changed it up from the get-go at his fall show on Tuesday night, starting with draped cashmere dresses, pleated to almost look wrinkled. “It was about celebrating the craft, really,” the designer said backstage, adding that he really focused on the materials, like suede and wool yarn jacquards. The grating soundtrack – a Masters at Work remix of “The Ha Dance,” which Rodriguez called “legendary in the house music world” – seemed somewhat out of place, but for Rodriguez, it had a connection to the collection’s softness: “The feeling of joy,” he said. “We all used to dance to it, and I love where I am in my life and my work.” Photographer Isabel Martinez got an up-close look backstage at the silky hair and chunky knits.
