Next Spring, Men Will Have Their Pick of High Heels
A funny thing on the Spring 2017 runways: high heels are in! And did we mention these were the men’s runways? This season, Shayne Oliver of Hood by Air, Demna Gvasalia at both Vetements and Balenciaga, plus Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared2 sent male models strutting down the runways in every variation of heel, from sequined go-go boots to to thigh-high platforms to low kitten heels. At DSquared2, even the hunky Mitchel Slaggert found his stride in heels that looked like they came from Kinky Boots. In a post-Trash and Vaudeville world, the select few who long for a good pair of men’s heels – which admittedly, includes a lot of drag queens – have relied on Christian Louboutin and Giuseppe Zanotti. “They offer a service that makes a custom mold of my foot so I can have the red bottoms I’ve always wanted,” the RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars contestant Alaska said of Louboutin. (Screaming Mimi’s, Allan and Suzi, and House of La Rue are other go-to New York stores for men’s high heels.) In any case, with the trend popping up all over the spring collections, men – drag queens and hunks – will have their pick of fabulous heels to choose from.
