Academy Award winning actors Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon were the toast of last night’s annual Presidential Dinner hosted by the Kering Group at the Cannes Film Festival. The dinner was in honor of Women in Motion, an organization which recognizes female trailblazers in the film industry. Silver screen attendees included Agnes Varda, Isabelle Huppert, Salma Hayek Pinault, Gael Garcia Bernal, Vanessa Paradis, Kirsten Dunst, and Freida Pinto. “I’m taking my shoes off the second I sit down,” exclaimed Sarandon, as she walked up the steps and into the glass dome built especially for the event, which overlooked the French Riviera. Sarandon is a trooper, in more ways than one. Despite the fact that Sarandon is currently recovering from a broken ankle, the 69-year-old actress stood tall in black stilettos she paired with an off-the-shoulder dress by Zac Posen. “I always love an excuse to see Geena, and I love that they’re encouraging and giving money to women in film,” said Sarandon, fresh off a flight from Berlin, where she spent two days installing ping pong tables at the refugee camp at Tempelhof Airport. “I think it’s great to have all these conversations about women directors. I don’t know what the solution for this inequality is, but the first thing is to recognize and talk about it.”
