Prepare Yourself: Glitter Is All the Rage for Spring 2017
In a runway season with more than its fair share of minimal makeup, we’ve jumped at anything exciting and shiny, and what’s shinier than glitter? It first turned up at Rodarte, where manicurist Tracy Lee delicately painted the models’ nail beds with a tiny line of the stuff against a bare nail, giving new meaning to the term “Naked Space.” At Giamba, makeup artist Val Garland painted various shapes onto the models’ foreheads to look like silvery tattoos. At Yves Saint Laurent, Anthony Vaccarello asked Tom Pecheux to decorate one lucky model with a glitter-embellished breast, while Pat McGrath, whose glitter-packed Lust 004 sold out in no time, chose a select few to glitz lips and necklines at Maison Margiela. Meanwhile, makeup artist Peter Philips did not hold back at Fendi, where he covered every models’ lips with mounds of the stuff in a pale salmon shade. The inspiration? Disney cartoon and video character Vanellope von Schweetz. “I wanted to achieve in a natural air by using a nude shade,” he explained. “You can almost imagine Vanellope taking a bite out of a glitter frosted donut!” McGrath might want to consider restocking…STAT.
