Edward Enninful’s Greatest Hits at W, From a Devilish Kate Moss to an Apocalyptic Rihanna
For the past six years, Edward Enninful has filled the pages of W with fantastical fashion, edgy editorials, and just about every major supermodel and Hollywood A-lister known to pop culture. Joining the magazine in 2011 as fashion and style director, Enninful transformed some of the world’s most famous faces time and time again: He imagined Kate Moss as both virtuous and sinful; Rihanna as the last woman alive; Bella Hadid as a French seductress; and Barbra Streisand as a kittenish vamp. Earlier this year, it was announced that Enninful had been appointed editor-in-chief of British Vogue, but before he heads back to London, where he spent his formative years, Enninful helped produce his final September issue for W, fronted by a futuristic Katy Perry. “What I never imagined was that in addition to finding a valuable collaborator, I was also making a friend,” Stefano Tonchi wrote of meeting and hiring Enninful back in 2011 in his editor’s letter for the issue. “It has been a real pleasure to work closely with Edward and to experience firsthand not just his talent but also his contagious enthusiasm and positive attitude.” Congratulations, Edward! Here, we take a look back at his greatest hits during a fabulous tenure at W.
