The Best Looks of London Fashion Week Fall 2017
With New York down, and several more fashion weeks to go, editors skipped across the pond for the second leg of fashion’s biannual marathon, to take in the fall collections from London’s top designers, including J. W. Anderson and Simone Rocha, who recently opened her first New York store. With all things Americana a focal point of New York fashion week, it will be interesting to see if social messages will make an appearance on London runways, or on the street, in light of Brexit. Though it may be the shortest of the fashion weeks, London never fails to present some of the most unforgettable looks of the season. Here, the most exceptional looks from the London runways.
1Burberry
Taking inspiration from the wonderful British sculptor Henry Moore (whose work was on display at the show), Burberry’s Christopher Bailey presented a collection that played with shape, texture, and form in a decidedly cool manner.
2Topshop Unique
Club kids and festival goers will have plenty to choose from in Topshop Unique’s young, fun, 90s-inflected collection.
3Joseph
From floral frocks to tailored pieces, slouchy was the running theme for Joseph’s Louise Trotter; and the result was a range of items to add to your fall wish-list.
4Erdem
Erdem never strays far from his romantic formula; for fall he morphed renaissance with prairie for a chic sister-wife feel.
5Peter Pilotto
Peter Pilotto went on a world tour for their fall collection, pulling knitting, embroidery, and quilting techniques from around the world and putting their own colorful spin on them.

Mulberry shares a stylist–Lotta Volkova–with Vetements and it shows in the oversized floral frocks. Needless to say, the best looks were the ones that felt more intrinsic to Mulberry and its sense of British heritage.

Mary Katrantzou described her fall collection as a fantasy, which is to say it was a wonderful mix of rich materials, dazzling embellishment, and enchanting references such as the work of artist M.C Escher and the 1940s Disney film Fantasia.

9Roland Mouret
Roland Mouret celebrated his 20th anniversary by returning home to London and showing a collection of figure-flattering dresses, as well as this tailored trouser look which, for him, felt fresh.

Jonathan Anderson has a lot of clever and complicated ideas, but sometimes he is at his best when he keeps it simple.

Leave it to Emilia Wickstead to do sequins in an elegant, demure way.

Molly Goddard has gained acclaim for her frothy princess frocks, and for fall she took them to the max, sending out tent-sized silk and tulle numbers styled with sequin stockings.

Simone Rocha is one of the strongest young designers today because she has such a clear and considered point of view on fashion. Her stoic, wartime fall collection, shown on an age-spanning array of models at the majestic Lancaster House, flawlessly telegraphed her romantic vision.
