Is Demna Gvasalia’s Balenciaga Fall 2017 Show His Coming Out as a Bernie Bro?
Always one to have his finger on the pulse, Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia showed what seemed to be his take on corporate office attire and presidential campaign logos at Paris Fashion Week Men’s on Wednesday, just days before Donald Trump‘s inauguration in Washington, D.C.. The fall 2017 collection included loosely-fitted khaki pants, blue-collar button-downs, and skinny ties reminiscent of Dunder Mifflin. But the biggest statement of all came in the form of the Balenciaga logo, which was re-worked as an apparent, at least to American eyes, reference to Bernie Sanders’s ubiquitous slogan. It’s no surprise that Gvasalia—who is Eastern European—is a Bernie bro, but if you thought politically-minded fashion was over post-election, think again. Gvasalia 2020!
