While introducing Robert Morris at the Dia Art Foundation dinner Sunday night in the master’s honor, the artist Wade Guyton recalled a time when Morris responded to criticism of his early work with a cut-felt piece that seemed to be saying to his detractors, “You want style? I’ll give you f–king style.” The crowd, which included artists Fred Wilson and Nate Lohman and designers Wes Gordon and Monique Péan, laughed knowingly, in on the joke about an artist who had once been described as the “Robespierre of Minimalism.”
