With “No After Party,” an Alexander Wang Show Is Just One Big Giant Moshpit with Kylie Jenner and Brooklyn Beckham

No After Party. That’s what the invitation to Alexander Wang’s Fall 2017 show proclaimed in no uncertain terms. Sure, but this is Alexander Wang, king of the fashion party. Editors and VIP guests–including Kylie Jenner and boyfriend Tyga, Brooklyn Beckham, and Teyana Taylor–who made the trek to Harlem’s RKO Hamilton Theater on 146th Street and Broadway entered the crumbling theater to be handed a plastic cup of Peroni beer. Inside, the standing room only scene was far more “waiting for a raucous concert to start” and less pre-fashion show of one of New York’s top designers. But again, this is Wang. With the opening chords of Migos’s “Bad and Boujee” pulsating through the crowd, the designer’s squad of “bad girl” models–this time with Bella Hadid! and Kendall Jenner–took the elevated runway that ran through the space. Like with most concerts, if you weren’t pressed up against the stage, it was a bit hard to see. But Wang’s fall offerings were worth the extra strain: streamlined, dark takes of sportswear, heavy on leather with hints of tweed and silk. Wang’s squad grows up and gets a job. But for now, it was Saturday night in Harlem and there was a secret after party to get to. What, you took that invite message to heart? Nope, you just weren’t invited.
