Inside Frieze New York 2016 Artist Alex Da Corte’s Philadelphia Studio

by Steph Eckardt

It takes a lot of space to engineer Alex Da Corte‘s ambitious installations, which is partly why the 35-year-old artist, who grew up in both Camden and Caracas, has eschewed New York for a studio in North Philadelphia. Part of a former candy factory in the “almost suburban” neighborhood of Juniata, it’s where Da Corte stores his menagerie of found objects, many of which he sources from as close by as the sidewalk sale across the street. (That’s not to mention the carpets, fluorescents, and endless cans of spray paint behind installations like an uptown haunted house and a 10-year survey currently up at MASS MoCA, too.) Get a look inside, here.
