On Wednesday, it was reported that Gisele Bündchen and her husband, the NFL quarterback Tom Brady, would be among the co-chairs at this year’s Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, to be held on May 1. Seeing that Bündchen is one of fashion’s most celebrated supermodels and Brady just won the Super Bowl for the New England Patriots, power moves from such a power couple are to be expected. But this year’s theme being “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between,” we can’t help but raise an eyebrow at this particular pairing of celebrity and fashion. We think it’s safe to say that Kawakubo and Brady have never once crossed paths, nor even found themselves in the same room or stadium. But perhaps this is a blessing in disguise. Kawakubo is, after all, known for her larger-than-life designs, which if you look closely might even resemble football gear. In our now familiar spirit of bridging the gap between fashion and other worlds, we imagine 10 iconic Comme des Garçons looks that might just be perfect for Tom Brady at the Met Gala.
