With the 81st Golden Globes airing on Sunday, January 7, we’re officially in that most special time of year—awards season. This year’s event marks the first official awards show since the end of the SAG-AFTRA strikes, and seemingly all the stars turned out in their best looks for the big night.

Comedian Jo Koy hosted the ceremony—though judging by the awkward silence in the room during his opening monologue, the crowd wasn’t quite feeling his jokes (and neither were the viewers at home). Koy felt the icy reception and went off script to note that he’d only gotten the gig 10 days prior, saying, “Some other people wrote that [joke]. I wrote some of these and those are the ones you’re laughing at.”

But as always, it was those watching at home, outside of Hollywood’s vaunted gates, who provided the best commentary of the night.
